She reached out and touched his hand, threading her fingers through his. “In the end, it
doesn’t really matter why they’re up here. Whether it’s priceless gem stones or some alien
spacecraft they dug out of the ice, we still need to find a way to steal a satellite phone and call for help.”
“This sucks. At least if we knew what they were planning, we’d be able to judge the risk
better. Military training basics. Don’t go in blind.”
McKinley speared her fingers through her hair, wishing she’d taken Josh’s advice and sat
the storm out at home. Hell, she and Beckett could be cuddled in her bed right now. Instead, they
were trapped in a bloody cabin with little food and nowhere else to go that wasn’t more
dangerous. Not exactly how she’d pictured this trip turning out—other than Beckett. He was
everything she’d ever imagined he’d be and more.
She closed her eyes, lifting her hands to her temples in an effort to rub her burgeoning
headache away before the damn thing took root. And the last thing she needed was another
distraction. One far less pleasant than Beckett.
His husky sigh drew her attention. She lowered her hand and glanced over at him. He’d
stopped mumbling to himself and was staring at her. Arms crossed on his chest, the beginnings
of a scowl etched across his lips. She paused to give him her best smile, cursing inwardly when
he raised a brow and pointed at the soup she’d left to get cold. She let her head tip back slightly as she quietly pushed the cup away.
He grunted, leaning across the table at her. “McKinley. You really need to eat something.
We’ve barely had any food in the in the past forty-eight hours, and I know you didn’t eat before
you picked me up. You never do when the weather’s this bad and the flight’s going to be rough.
You should be starving.”
She tilted her head, watching him pout. God the man was adorable. “I’m just not hungry.
Honestly. I’m fine.”
His frown deepened. “You’re not hungry?”
He scraped his chair back, one stride taking him to her side. He straddled her legs and
pressed the back of his hand against her forehead. “You’re warm.”
“You just bent me over the table and made me come. More than once. Of course I’m
warm.”
He scowled. “This isn’t the remnants of great sex.”
